About the Author
Philip Watson studied Chinese at Oxford and London, worked in the Painting and Calligraphy department of the National Palace Museum in Taiwan, and was briefly a lecturer in Chinese at Edinburgh University, before joining the British diplomatic service. His career, which included postings in Beijing and Hong Kong, culminated in responsibility for Asia, the Americas and Australasia. He was appointed CMG in the Queen's Birthday Honours of 1999. Watson's current interest is translation from Classical Chinese of the eleventh and twelfth centuries.

Rostis takes a postcolonial theoretical stance and includes a postcolonial analysis of the Red Cross and Medecins Sans Frontieres as case studies in the emergence of organized global humanitarianism. By incorporating the discourse of humanitarianism into stakeholder theory and 'business and society' research, he expands his investigation by problematizing what has been up to now an unproblematic conceptualization of the nonprofit organization as an unquestionable good. He elaborates on the discourse of humanitarianism demonstrating some counterintuitive behaviors of these two well-known humanitarianism organizations.
